Meet the Team: Sarah Vandervort

This week I wanted to introduce you to one of our newest employees, Sarah Vandervort. Sarah is originally from Maumelle and moved back to Little Rock after graduating from UCA in 2020. She has jumped right in, quickly becoming an important member of our team as the Investment Operations Coordinator. We are excited to see what the future holds for her. If you to get to know Sarah, you’ll quickly see why we love having her as part of our team.

When you were a kid what did you want to be when you grew up?

When I was a kid, I wanted to be an interior designer. I would spend my weekends rearranging the furniture in my room – sliding my bed across the floor and slowly maneuvering dressers into the corner, all while shoving everything that didn’t suit my style at the time into my closet. I would pull random things from other areas of the house to add to my room until I was ready to move everything back to its original state or try something new again!

What do you enjoy about the work you do?

I really enjoy the environment I work in. We are all very collaborative and supportive of each other and the work that we do. I feel very lucky to contribute and work alongside those who have found purpose in the work they do.

What is one piece of advice you’d give to your teenage self?

One of the best pieces of advice that I have received is to create certainty in your life, but also to leave room for uncertainty. I am very much a planner and I used to feel like I had to have all the details ironed out in my life to feel secure. I have realized with time that by planning only on the things of which I was certain, I had left myself vulnerable to the uncertainty that life inevitably brings. I now understand the uncertainty gives me spontaneity, as well as room to grow and learn – the freedom to make my own decisions the way I see fit but also be open to things I may not have considered that come into my life. This advice that I received only a few years ago has shown me a lot about how I can create and choose the life I want while also embracing the uncertainty that comes with life.

What do you enjoy doing when you aren’t working?

I recently moved back to Little Rock, so I have been discovering new places to eat and fun new things to do within the city. I also enjoy taking my dog around the parks of Little Rock and going on weekend trips to see my friends outside of Arkansas.

Spring, Summer, Fall or Winter?

Spring! I was born in March so Spring being my favorite season is only right. I enjoy the nice weather – not too hot, not too cold. Most of all everything is plush and green, and the flowers are in full bloom!

What is one thing most people don’t know about you?

I am big on DIY projects. I like finding things around my apartment that need to be revamped into something new! Whether it is clothes, décor or furniture, I like to take the old items and repurpose them into something that is useful to me today. I also have a knack for revamping items found on Facebook marketplace and flipping them either for my home or for others!

I hope you have the chance to meet Sarah next time you’re in the office.  As always, we are here for you. Please email or call if you want to set up a Zoom video conference meeting or talk by phone.
