Our History

The Arkansas Financial Group, Inc. began in 1982 as a pension consulting firm. In 1985, AFG registered as an Investment Advisor with the Securities and Exchange Commission and Arkansas Securities Department, providing comprehensive financial advice. Beginning in 1991, the principals of the firm terminated their securities licenses and began providing financial advice on a fee-only basis.

Over the years, national recognition of our work with clients and our service to the profession has earned AFG high rankings on the lists of exceptional financial advisors. Beginning in 1997, Rick Adkins CFP® has been recognized numerous times by Worth as one of "The Best 250 Financial Advisers in America." He has also been listed since 1998 by Medical Economics as one of "The 150 Best Financial Advisors for Doctors." In fact, since 2006, he and Dr. Ralph Broadwater, CFP® are the only Arkansans who currently are included on that list.

Members of our firm serve in various financial positions that set our firm apart from others. Mr. Adkins helped develop practice standards for the financial planning profession and then served on the governing board of financial planning's primary regulatory body, Certified Financial Planner Board of Standards.

Members of the firm have chaired and/or presented at national conferences, as well as been officers in local chapters of financial planning associations. They have co-authored books and created financial planning software. They are regularly tapped to provide financial information and opinions for numerous national publications including: The Wall St. Journal, New York Times, USA Today, Physicians’ Financial News, Journal of Retirement Planning, Medical Economics, Business Week, Mutual Funds, Journal of Financial Planning, Investment Advisor, Worth, Journal of Accountancy, Financial Advisor, and Kiplinger's Personal Finance.
